Optical Bonding

Optical bonding improves display performance indoors and out

Optical bonding refers to the process of using optical-grade adhesives to attach protective glass, filters and touch sensors to the front surface of an LCD display. By filling the void between the LCD and the cover glass, optical bonding eliminates two reflective surfaces thus improving contrast, and therefore image quality, under all lighting conditions. In addition to improving outdoor readability by as much as 400%, optical bonding has a number of other benefits:

  • Increases durability by improving impact and vibration resistance which can be critical in military and transportation.
  • Prevents condensation and internal dust build up
  • Increases resistance to extreme temperatures
  • Enables thinner displays by eliminating the air gap between the LCD and front surface

Optical bonding for any size display

IEE's in-house bonding and lamination facility use the latest techniques to reduce costs, improve production lead-times and production rates, and give you consistently high-quality displays through direct control of our critical process steps. We utilize the DuPontā„¢ VertakĀ® bonding process, a proven, UV stable adhesive technology, that allows us to perform direct LCD bonding from a 1.5" to 30" active display area.

Optical bonding is a complex process requiring specialized equipment and expertise to deliver consistent, reliable results. IEE has a long history of serving our customers with optical bonding of:

  • Anti-glare/anti-reflective glass
  • Polarizing filters
  • Vandal proof glass
  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) coated EMI shields
  • Touchscreens
