IEE Demonstrating Avionics Display With “Future Airborne Compatibility Environment” (FACE) Compatible Architecture

Next Generation Avionics Efficiencies Showcasing at “Quad A” Summit

April 11, 2016, Van Nuys, CA—IEE, manufacturer of enhanced displays for military applications will be exhibiting at the Army Aviation Missions Solutions Summit (Quad A) in Atlanta, Georgia from April 28-30th. In addition to an array of smart and flat panel displaysto choose from, IEE will be showcasing a new FACE compatible architecture display product.

The FACE architecture approach defines a Common Operating Environment (COE) that is segmented to support the re-use or re-hosting of application software across different computing platforms. The “Portable Components Segment” of the FACE Architecture is designed to be independent of the lower level hardware and software Input/Output (I/O) functions that are typically unique to each avionics device.

The IEE 6”x 8” FACE compatible display can be used as an avionics platform on almost any aircraft, offers common aircraft data interfaces, runs an operational flight program (OFP) designed to FACE guidelines, and is ready to host FACE-compatible apps that meet a customer’s system requirements. These features create lifecycle management efficiencies and facilitate platform-to-platform portability.

“In the spirit of the FACE standard, we’ve designed both the software and lower level hardware with attention to modularity, re-use and expansion,” said Steve Motter, Vice-President, Business Development at IEE. “Proven to meet the extreme environments of rotary-wing and jet fighters, this 6 x 8 display provides I/O capabilities that meet the needs of our customer’s diverse requirements. The portability of the FACE apps makes the addition of avionics functions, such as moving maps, a quick integration. With the upcoming addition of a fiber-based ARINC-818 interface to our portfolio, our display will support faster, lighter weight video interfacing, providing for future cost-efficient integrations for our customers’ applications.”

The FACE compatible display will receive data in the FACE payload data format from Enabling Technology and Innovation’s (ETI) Avionics Simulation Environment(ASE). The ASE product provides dynamic aircraft data to OFPs over Ethernet and MIL-STD-1553 data busses.
